Is it possible to make an entertaining, high quality piece of animation in a single weekend?” The answer, is no. Last year myself and some talented friends, colleagues and associates proved this by entering into the Adelaide 48 Hour Film Festival. This film is NOT a good example of anybody involved’s skills. It’s a real shambles, mostly because we had to fill a 4 minute run time which, for animation, is INSANE! ‘Snake Catcher in the Rye’ has sat in a Dropbox folder for the past 12 months… UNTIL NOW!
I fixed a couple of editing bugs that didn’t quite get ironed out and put some music at the end but for the most part this was created (concept, script, storyboard, voice recording, design, animation, editing, sound mix?) in just 2 working days. We’re all too old to do all-nighters so it was a pretty standard 9-5 work day. Our group was randomly assigned the the genre ‘Buddy Movie’. We also had to include the line “Will you just made a decision?”, have a Mango in there, have a character who is a snake catcher and use the SA cricket oval as location. And this the weirdest idea in the world was conceived. I’m really looking forward to trying it again this year. Mostly because when I saw the first cut of ‘Snake Catcher in the Rye’ it was so abysmal I laughed so hard that I cried…
I can’t really take the credit or blame for this film. It was a collaboration of quite a lot of people who most likely don’t want me to name them here (but they’re in the credits). But I think there’s some okay stuff in there. You know what, why don’t you decide?
